The Best Selling Plants at Point Phillip Perennials

There is a direct relationship to the best selling plants here at the nursery and the ones that perform in a superlative fashion in our gardens. Fellow gardeners are always welcome to wander through our gardens and see what is looking really good at the moment.  We usually have something that is performing well for sale.

Over the years there are certain plants that are totally dependable in providing interest to your gardens. There are plants that certainly stand out among the perennials. One of the most eye catching is Euphorbia polychroma - Cushion Spurge. This plant never has an ugly day and can grow under very diverse conditions. It provides a wonderful splash of yellow in the early spring. Another favorite is Amsonia tabernaemontana - Blue Star Willow.  This plant has beautiful pale blue flowers in the spring with bluish willowy foliage that has the added attribute of turning bright gold in the fall. The hardy geraniums are always among our best selling plants. They form constant interest in our gardens. I think my favorite last year was Geranium 'Tiny Monster'. It bore bright fuchsia flowers all through the summer and fall with out any care what so ever. Geranium 'Rozanne' has been everybody's favorite for the last few years. In addition to Rozanne we are growing Geranium 'Jolly Bee' this year which also has the long bloom time but is a more mounding plant. The last group of perennials that form the background of many shade gardens are the Hostas. There are so many beautiful cultivars available today - a far cry from what our grandmothers planted!

Many shrubs consistently make the list for best sellers.  Spirea, Viburnum and Hydrangeas always prove to be very popular. The Spirea come in a multitude of foliage color combinations.  They have very attractive foliage and if pruned properly will bloom twice in one year. Viburnum is a very diverse group - evergreen, deciduous, fragrant, non-fragrant, beautiful berries and flowers. I could never begin to pick a favorite! There is a Viburnum for almost any spot in your garden. We sell three species of hydrangeas - paniculata (Panicle Hydrangea), quercifolia (Oak Leaf Hydrangea) and involucrata (the bracted hydrangea). All have proven to be valuable assets to our gardens.

Many fads come and go in the gardening world - but the above plants perform consistently year after year and are always among our most popular.
